Annual Report and Accounts

We are pleased to publish the Annual Report and Accounts for 2010-11.

Our President, Chris Townsend, highlights the challenges we face in representing mountaineers’ interests in the face of widespread wind farm developments in our upland areas. He also highlights our success in raising the profile of the hill tracks campaign which resulted in a government consultation on this important issue.

The Treasurer’s report highlights a significant improvement in financial performance, reporting a small deficit and a determination to achieve a balanced budget in future years. We received continuing support from sportscotland with level investment in mountaineering over the next two years, and there is a strong possibility that future investment will be made on the basis of a 4-year term, rather than the current annual basis. An independent management audit gave a positive result and provides members with the assurance that their organisation is being managed effectively.

The Chief Officer’s report highlights the continued growth in our membership, and the renewed commitment by the MCofS to Equity, where we achieved the Foundation Level of the Equity Standard.

Officers’ reports provide the detail about our work, much of which is only made possible by a host of volunteers – from our elected Board in governance, to those who have contributed to our stand against developments in the mountains, and the many who support sport climbing competitions and development activities.

Our thanks are extended to those volunteers, to sportscotland, to the Scottish Mountaineering Trust and the BMC for their financial support for our Access and Conservation work, and to our members for their continued support.
