MCofS Child Protection Advice
Child protection:
The MCofS Child Protection Policy and Recommendations for Good Practice provide detailed child protection procedures applicable to Club Members and MCofS-organised events.
The Guidance gives practical advice on how club and MCofS volunteers should conduct themselves with children during physical activities such as climbing and mountaineering, the use of photography and video and dealing with bullying. It explains what Disclosure Scotland Checks are and what to do if there are allegations of abuse, both from the point of view of the child and the adult.
MCofS Events:
The MCofS runs two different types of events:
- Mountaineering Events - various social / 'Meet' / coaching / competitive events available only to members
- Delivery of instructional sessions in mountain safety, available to both members and non-members
The MCofS operates all its events according to agreed standards of good practice, and these are different for the two different types of event:

MCofS Guidance for Employing Instruction:
If you intend to employ a qualified Leader, Instructor or Guide to introduce you and your children to climbing, this guidance gives you advice on how to approach it.
