Scottish Youth Climbing Championship (SYCC)
Scotland's National Youth Competition Event

In 2007 Scott Muir of Extreme Dream Climbing Wall in Aviemore inaugurated a separate Scottish National Championship competition to find the Scottish Champions from the top five competitors from the MCofS Youth Climbing Series Teams. The Championship was held at Extreme Dream with the support of the MCofS in 2008 and 2009 as a one-off invitational competition held in May or June before the Youth Climbing Series Final.

In 2010 the MCofS recognised the event as its national youth competition, which identifies the Scottish champions and a Scottish Youth Team and in future it will be held at different venues across Scotland. With changes to the requirements of the British Team brought in in 2009, those Scottish climbers who are selected to the British Team are now unable to take part in the YCS. However, they are able to take part in this National Competition.

From 2010 the MCofS expanded the SYCC to include an additional upper age group category (17-19yr). This category  operates as an OPEN EVENT.

  • NOTES:
    · The SYCC is formerly recognised by MCofS as the National Competition.
    · The SYCC scores and ranking will identify the ‘Scottish Team’.
    · The event is run on the same basis as the YCS / BLCC and parent must accompany their child and be responsible for their behaviour.
    · The Boulder problems for 14-16 and 17-19 age categories will concentrate on technique and balance, rather than intensive power, dynos or feet off problems to minimise finger injury at this age.
    · The standard of Routes for the 14-16 and 17-19 age categories is higher than that of the YCS to correlate to BICC standards.
    · Data Protection: Entrants’ data is only sanctioned by MCofS for use in this event and will not be passed on to third parties without consent.
