Wildlife and Access

Plants and animals are an integral part of our enjoyment and experience of a mountain or a crag. We all need to be aware of where we stand in relation to wildlife laws, as disturbing a wide range of plants and animals is illegal. Knowing how to take access responsibly is vital in order to stay within the law and within your access rights. To help you understand your responsibilities to wildlife have a read of the MCofS's Minimal Impact Mountaineering Advice. Bird disturbance is especially delicate in the mountaineering environment, and we have detailed advice on birds specifically for mountaineers here.
