Core Path Planning

The Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 gives the lead management role to the 32 local authorities and 2 national park authorities (collectively known as the access authorities). Each authority has set up at least one Local Access Forum (LAF). Its role is to advise on access issues in the relevant area. LAFs are made up of representatives from the access authority, other public agencies, land managers, access user groups and local community. The contact for each is LAF is the local Access Officer. You can see a list of these contacts here.

Each access authority is drawing up a Core Path Plan for their area. This is being conducted in consultation with local communities and other stakeholders. MCofS is responding where there will be implications for upland and crag environments. You are encouraged to take part in this process and links to your area can be found here
