Access Problem Reporting
It is vital ALL access issues are reported to the relevant access authority (local authority or national park) as they prioritise cases on the basis of number of reports, not who does the reporting.
All access authorities have Access Officers, or other staff with specific responsibility for access. They have the duty to uphold the rights of the legislation. These staff are the statutory route for resolution of access issues. You can find a list of contacts here. Should you experience access issues, please report to the relevant access authority Access Officer. The reporting form will guide you in the information they are likely to require. It is also helpful if you copy correspondence to the MCofS Office as MCofS monitors mountaineering-relevant access problems. This will highlight to us common problems and areas, and guide us at a strategic level in tackling access difficulties through the National Access Forum or other relevant organisation. We can also pick up on cases that are not being resolved quickly enough or to your satisfaction with the benefit of a full history of correspondence. Please do not just send to the A&C Officer as there may be data protection problems in copying such correspondence to the access authority as they will need contact details, and likely to have follow-up questions the A&C Officer may not be able to answer.
