Area Youth Coordinators
What is an Area Youth Co-ordinator?
An Area Youth Co-ordinator (AYC) supports the MCofS’s Youth Development Programme at local level. They are experienced in most of the climbing, hill walking and mountaineering disciplines and have experience of working with and supervising young people.
Often they will have good links with local climbing walls and have links to local authority youth services, development units, active schools coordinators and outdoor centres. They also have direct links to local kids climbing clubs and give help and advice to parents and young climbers in their progression through the sport.
They work with the MCofS Development Officer in delivering events such as the Youth Climbing Series (YCS) in Scotland, REALrock, YCS Training sessions and performance coaching sessions.
They also sit on the MCofS Youth Development Working Group (a group of volunteers comprising parents, kids clubs reps, MCofS elected members and other adults working with children).
