Area Youth Coordinators
What is an Area Youth Co-ordinator?
An Area Youth Co-ordinator (AYC) supports the MCofS’s Youth Development Programme at local level. They have experience of climbing and working with and supervising young people. Our current AYC's are all members of MCofS affiliated Kids Clubs and have good links with their local climbing walls.
They work with the MCofS Development Officer in organising events such as the Youth Climbing competitions (YCS & Championships as well International competitions) in Scotland, REALrock sessions, training sessions and performance coaching sessions. They also sit on relevant MCofS Advisory Groups and are involved in the development of our strategy and operational plan.
The AYC will be able to give you information about the MCofS, MCof events, your local kids clubs and other mountaineering clubs, the different disciplins of climbing and mountaineering as well as hill walking. They also give help and advice to parents and young climbers in their progression through the sport. They often have links to local authority youth services, development units, active schools coordinators and outdoor centres.
