Introduction

Following MCofS Board approval of the Strategic Plan 2009-2013 in March 2009 we invited clubs to nominate representatives for the Clubs Advisory Group (CAG). The aim in establishing the CAG is to better inform the Board of issues relevant to clubs and improve two-way communication between clubs and the MCofS. The first meeting of the CAG was held at Glenmore Lodge on 5 September 2009.

The MCofS believes that clubs are an essential and intrinsic part of the Scottish mountaineering scene, and an important entry point for those wishing to take up mountaineering activities for the first time. We are committed to supporting clubs and want to ensure that our future support reflects the needs of our club members and that we are able to fully support club development.

Remit

The Clubs Advisory Group (CAG) is to advise the Board, via the Director for Club Affairs, on issues pertaining to Clubs. These issues will be identified either by the Director, in consultation with the Board and MCofS staff, or by CAG members. The CAG will also be invited to input to MCofS Strategy Reviews. The Director will chair the Group, and members will be drawn from club members of the MCofS. Members of the Group will liaise and communicate with other clubs according to agreed guidelines.

Membership

The current chair of the CAGis Karin Froebel Overton, an electeddirector of the MCofS Board with responsibility for Club Affairs. There are currently 21 clubs represented, from a total of 135 clubs with membership of the MCofS. Membership of the CAG is open to any club that wishes to be involved.
