Clubs Advisory Group
This page includes the following sections:
Following MCofS Board approval of the Strategic Plan 2009-2013 in March 2009 we invited clubs to nominate representatives for the Clubs Advisory Group (CAG). The aim in establishing the CAG is to better inform the Board of issues relevant to clubs and improve two-way communication between clubs and the MCofS.
There are 135 clubs with membership of the MCofS. Whilst this number has remained relatively static in recent years, the actual membership of clubs has shown a marginal decline. At the same time, individual membership has increased substantially.
MCofS believes that clubs are an essential and intrinsic part of the Scottish mountaineering scene, and an important entry point for those wishing to take up mountaineering activities for the first time. We are committed to supporting clubs and want to ensure that our future support reflects the needs of our club members and that we are able to fully support club development.
The first chair of the CAG is Ron Payne, an elected director of the MCofS Board with responsibility for Club Affairs and Development. The membership of the CAG will be:
- Ron Payne, Chair, Perth Mountaineering Club
- George Smart, Grampian Club
- Ken Thomson, Cairngorm Club
- Stuart Doig, Aberdeen MC
- Elaine Edwards, Wilsons Walkers
- Graham Barrie, Orion MC
- Alex Joss, Highland Hill Walking Club
- Peter Willimott, Kirkintilloch MC
- Jim Graham, Scottish Midweek Mountaineering Club
- Scott Forsyth, Alsion Bosiand Tanya Tennant, all Quickdraw Climbing Club
- Rachel Gallacher, Ladies Scottish Climbing Club
The Clubs Advisory Group (CAG) is to advise the Board, via the Director for Club Affairs and Development, on issues pertaining to Clubs. These issues will be primarily identified by the Director in consultation with the Board and MC of S staff but they may also be raised by CAG members. The CAG will be chaired by the Director and members will be drawn from MC of S clubs at the discretion of the Director. Members of the Group will liaise and communicate with other clubs according to guidelines issued by the Director. The CAG will input to MC of S Strategy reviews and enable the MC of S to fulfil it's Operational Plans.
The first meeting of the CAG was held at Glenmore Lodge on 5 September 2009. Current issues are the Voting Review, ( members of the CAG are also members of the VRWG ), Research with Clubs, Club Seminar scheduled for 4 September 2010, and Club Subscription discount.
If you wish to comment on the activities of the CAG please contact Ron Payne through the MCofS office or by using the contact form.
