Campaigns
Throughout the history of the MCofS, since its beginnings in 1970, it has campaigned on behalf of mountaineers and walkers on numerous issues concerning the Scottish hills. To increase effectiveness, these are often in partnership with other voluntary organisations. The MCofS won some major battles including the prevention of ski expansion into Lurchers Gully on Cairngorm in 1993.
Current Campaigns
- Hill Tracks Campaign - there is a proliferation of hill tracks occurring across Scotland, including through some of our most valued wild land, and this is without effective planning control. Through work of the MCofS, a Scottish Government consultation was held in 2011. The outcome of the consultation is still awaited as of January 2012.
