Child Protection Information for Parents
The MCofS wishes to allow children to:
- participate in a way which encourages and excites
- undertake the activity in as safe a manner as possible
- gain an understanding of the risk involved and methods of managing that risk
- develop skills towards becoming safer practitioners in the future
- have the opportunity to learn about all aspects of the sport and its ethos
- learn about the natural environment
- become competent independent mountaineers, climbers and hill walkers
We wish to empower parents / responsible adults with the core knowledge and skills of the sport so they have an understanding of the activities and the risk involved and are then able to provide support to their children. We recommend you read the parents guide elsewhere on these pages (Children: Hill Walking, Climbing and Mountaineering- see Kids: Walking Climbing Mountaineering).
This booklet also contains advice about what you can do to protect your children from abuse; find out about ‘Disclosure’ checks and guidance on what to do if you suspect abuse.
On the menu on the left you will find out what we at the MCofS do to protect children as well as advice from the Scottish Government regarding protecting children and an ‘Accord’ for protecting children in sport. There is also a brief guide to the laws in Scotland protecting children and International Legislation that affects us.
