Climbing & Mountaineering SupportSince the late 1980’s the MCofS has supported mountaineering expeditions by Scottish-based climbers to all parts of the world. Grants have been awarded for objectives that were at the cutting edge of mountaineering by experienced climbers, exploratory expeditions into un-chartered or little visited mountain areas, and as a means of supporting Scottish climbers gaining experience to tackle objectives in the greater ranges.
However, the MCofS has always been forward thinking in catering for changes in climbing and in recent years the awards have been given to climbers whose objectives are regarded as significant in world terms in the disciplines of pure rock and ice, or mixed or sport mixed in areas of the world less remote such as Europe and America, and recently awards have been made to expeditions involving young people.
The MCofS will now also endeavour to support those climbers operating at national and international level in indoor competitive climbing.
The amount of funds available directly from the MCofS as part of our sports development activities is small, but we offer support when applying to other funding bodies, including lottery.
There are other awards available for a range of different expeditions and details can be found on these pages.
Support for ‘Talented Athletes’ through a variety of awards including the National Lottery, local sports council awards and bursaries from universities will also be supported if applicable.
