The Catherine Smith Memorial Trust has allocated funds to sponsor 60 Scottish Student Club members to attend a weekend Winter Skills Training Course at Glenmore Lodge on the above dates (arrival on Friday night - departure after training on Sunday).
Each student will be charged a £15 course fee to offset the total cost. This fee is non-refundable irrespective of any other name changes which may be made later.
The course will cover the basic skills of navigation, winter safety, avalanche avoidance, walking with axe and crampons, ice axe self arrest, and much more (conditions permitting); it will not involve any use of ropes. The staffing ratio is 1:6
Accommodation, food, equipment and transport during the course will be provided (transport to and from Glenmore Lodge is not included).
This course is only available to members of Scottish Student Mountaineering, Climbing and Hill Walking Clubs (aged 18 years or over).
Places will be allocated equally between clubs. In order to arrange the share of places among all the clubs, please compile a list of eight students from your club who wish to attend. The names should be listed IN ORDER OF PRIORITY. It is expected that there will be about twelve clubs wishing to send members and so the number of participants per club will be approximately five.
Clubs are responsible for deciding who has priority. It may be that you wish to send inexperienced members in order to give them a good start in developing winter skills or you may decide to send more experienced members so that the skills can be passed on within the club. Some of both may be the best option. The closing date for submitting the list of members is Wednesday 31st December 2008.
PLEASE SEND YOUR LIST OF EIGHT CLUB MEMBERS WISHING TO ATTEND - IN ORDER OF PRIORITY - NO LATER THAN WEDNESDAY 31st DECEMBER 2008
Places will then be allocated and booking forms sent to the participants.
