Like most outdoor gear there is a compromise which has to be made when selecting equipment for Nordic travel. The conflict is mainly between travelling light and efficiently compared with having heavier gear which slows you down but provides more control and protection. This applies to skis, bindings and boots but also to the gear on your back. A light rucksack will mean you can travel fast but will you have enough gear for an emergency? On the other hand, if you carry too much gear you will be slower and become more tired.
