Indoor Climbing Events for Children

bouldering at Inverness wallThe MCofS, partner climbing walls (SCWN), and Kids Club (The Quickdraw Club), organise a series of indoor climbing events for young climbers throughout the year in Scotland. These range from the youth competition series (YCS) to coaching sessions, to beginner’s come-and-try-it events and festivals.

Youth Coaching Event
European Youth Competition Preparation & Young Climbers Introduction
Sunday 6th September 2009

- To prepare potential EYC competitors for the forthcoming competition
- To create more awareness of and generate interest in what can be achieved in our sport at International level
- Coaching and hands on on-sighting & competition tactics for young Climbers of Scottish & British Team members
- Non-climbers Intro sessions on the mobile climbing tower
- Members of Quick-draw Club to introduce beginners to climbing in the main arena
- Climbing Sessions on the Climbing Tower

The European Youth Championship
Friday 18th September – Sunday 20th September

EICA: Ratho will host a round of the European Youth competitions. Members of national teams from across the world will be competing along with Scottish members of the British team and spectators are welcome.

Climbing Rocks Festival
Youth Climbing Festival
Saturday 10th October 2009

The recently established Quickdraw club, the EICA: Ratho and the MCofS are planning a Festival to be held at Ratho on October 10th. Aimed at children (and their parents) who wish to try climbing for the first time as well as those already ‘hooked’ (including members of the Youth Climbing Teams!): a full day of activities for the whole family, with come-and-try-it sessions, lectures / slide shows, a family climbing competition, skills workshops, on-sighting sessions, abseiling, bouncy castle and much much more.

Youth Coaching in Climbing

In association with members of the Scottish Climbing Wall Network the MCofS shall be offering sessions from well known climbers aimed at both novices and those more advanced. These will be scheduled for the autumn and full details will be posted on our website and the Scottish Youth Climbing Blog.
