AGM & Annual Lecture

A morning AGM is followed by a full programme of lectures including:

  • Ian R Mitchell talking on The Reverend AE Robertson
  • A film from “The Climbers” series
  • “The First Hunrded Munroists by Dave Hewitt.
  • The Munro Society’s Mountain Quality Indicators will be launched and “An Evening with Jim Curran” rounds off the day

3,000th Munroist
Mr Michael Urqhuart completed the round on An Socach above Glen Affric on the 23rd August 2003 to be the 3,000th recorded Munroist completer. Irvine Butterfield (left), Monro Society President, Presented him with a celebratory plaque.

AVIEMORE WALKING FESTIVAL

The second Aviemore Walking Festival offers guided graded walks in beautiful scenery & wildlife in good Spring weather and clear air. You will walk in the glens, foothills and at over 4,000 feet in the Cairngorms amid sparkling lochs, fragrant pine forests and open moors.

Special for this year are the five highest Scottish mountains and the Speyside Way long distance path. This is in addition to a full range of several graded guided walks each day and a full programme of evening talks, entertainment, and highland hospitality.

GLEN AFFRIC WALKING FESTIVAL

5-7th June

Based in the Strathglass surrounding Glens of Affric, Cannich, Strathfarrar and Urquhart, the 3 day programme will include over 25 guided walks graded easy/moderate to strenuous, 11 of which being high level hill walks with numerous Munros, Corbetts and Grahams and one for brushing up your navigation skills.

The area comprises two National Nature Reserves and one Bird Reserve and so low level walks, some of which are suitable for families, will concentrate on conservation, native Caledonian Pine forest regeneration, land management, habitat restoration, fauna and flora and local archaeology/heritage. All guides are specialists and, as well as ensuring that the correct routes are followed, they will provide interesting and captivating information.

Evening entertainment of two evening illustrated talks highlighting the ecological importance and beauty of Glen Affric with particular emphasis on the primeval Caledonian Pine woodland.

Supported by Forestry Commission Scotland, Scottish Natural Heritage, Trees for Life, Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, Strathglass Heritage and of professional mountain guides.
