The Scottish Mountaineer

The Voice of Scotland’s Mountain Walkers and Climbers
The membership magazine of the MCofS

The Scottish Mountaineer is a quarterly, full colour, 100 page magazine for members, containing news, views, comment and events in the areas of our work: Access and Conservation, Mountain Safety, Mountaineering Development and Membership Services. It also has a substantial Features section containing articles written by members, most of whom would call them themselves amateurs, but many are authors as well as active mountaineers and hill walkers. Reports from those receiving MCofS Mountaineering and Climbing Bursaries are featured as are the winners of the MCofS Mountain Article Competition and the Edinburgh Mountain Film Festival Photo competition winners. The Other News and Guest organisations sections bring members up to date with what’s going on in the wider world. We run Book and DVD Reviews as well as Reader Offers.

There is the occasional ‘hot topic’ discussed in the Talking Point feature and Bivi Talk is a member’s letters page. The member services pages also contain the ClubSpot – a regular feature profiling our affiliated clubs. Previous ClubSpot’s are reproduced HERE

The magazine is available through membership of the MCofS (either Individual or Club) and is available in hard copy through your letter box or in digital format through your email: JOIN NOW

The digital version is also available to non-members. More info from the MCofS shop HERE

It is published on our behalf by the Herald and Times Group
