Munro Compleaters

The term ‘compleater’ is an archaic term to describe those who have ascended all the 3,000 foot summits listed in Munros Tables at the time of their completion.

Those who complete the Munros can record their achievement with the Scottish Mountaineering Club (SMC). They are then allocated a Munroist number and this will be recorded on the SMC website (www.smc.org.uk/munros) and also in the annual SMC Journal.

Munroists will receive a compleation certificate, the opportunity to have their compleation photo included on the SMC website and are able to purchase a Munro tie, brooch or lapel badge.

The SMC website is now being expanded to include Corbett, Graham and Donald completions.

Full details and the address of the current Clerk of the List can be found on the SMC website www.smc.org.uk/munros.

The Munro Society was founded in 2002 and is open to anyone who has completed a round of the Munros, dependent on the number of Munros on the list at the time of compleation.

The Munro Society represents a group of mountaineers with considerable knowledge and interest in the Scottish hills. The main aim behind the society’s formation was to ‘give something back to the mountains’. The society aims to achieve this by:

  • Establishing an archive dedicated to preserving material related to Munros and Munroists. The archive is open to the general public.
  • An ongoing assessment process monitoring the condition of Munros, Munro Tops and Furths in terms of erosion and other man made intrusions. A database has been established and published.
  • An active social community with an annual dinner, lecture and hill walking weekends.
  • The resurvey of ‘borderline’ 3,000 foot Munro and Corbett summits to accurately measure their height. This has resulted in the demotion of Sgurr nan Ceannaichean from the Munro to Corbett list.

The Munro Society is always keen to welcome new members from the ranks of Munroists. Membership details can be found at www.themunrosociety.com.
