Auchinstarry Quarry Climbing Access Update – 6/4/10
The engineering / rock stability report I was promised to have view of and discuss with the maintenance department, after further chasing, I have now been told is not public document. This means they have refused to discuss its contents with respect to access to Auchinstarry Quarry for climbing as it is not “signed off.” The fact that decisions regarding erection of barriers have been made based on this report because of “health and safety,” therefore seems extraordinary. I have complained to the Access Officer that there is a lack of clear information and reasoning and that decisions regarding access are being taken without a legal reason and on a non-public report.
A meeting is scheduled between the Senior Access Officer, her manager and the maintenance team and council legal services on Monday 12th April. This should iron out this situation over which North Lanarkshire Council seems to have got themselves in large amounts of confusion and disconnected decision-making.
