Scotland's Winter Mountains - Advice for Hillwalkers and Climbers
As we look forward to another winter weekend in the mountains, we offer the following advice:
- Enjoy the freedom of the mountains, but remember that they can be a harsh, challenging and unforgiving environment
-
Don't be too ambitious with the length of your route choice - consider the weather, underfoot conditions and limited daylight hours
- Recent events indicate that there is a considerable avalanche risk in certain mountain locations
- Read and understand the avalanche and mountain weather forecasts and act upon that information
-
Always have an alternative plan, don't fall into the trap of being too goal orientated
-
The mountains will always be there, the trick is to make sure you are too
