Youth Climbing Series 2013
The first round of the MCofS Youth Climbing Series was held last Saturday.
There were two competitions, one at the The Peak Sports Centre, Stirling for the South Region and the other at the Inverness Leisure Centre for the North Region.
A record 73 children attended the South Region event. South Area Youth Coordinator, Scott Forsyth said, "Stirling once again came up trumps, a small wall but a fantastic venue. Despite having over 70 children we had no super finals, a dream start! I was fortunate to have Robbie Phillips, MCofS Elite Coach and our chief route setter there on the day, to help make subtle changes and it worked a treat. Thanks must go to Avril Gall (Deputy Youth Coordinator), Sandy Carr (scoring IT impresario) and a great team of judges and belayers."
In the North the Youth Climbing Series got off to a terrific start with 32 competitors, tackling a series of new specially designed routes and boulder problems by our National Setter, Neil McGeachy. North Area Youth Coordinator, John Donaldson said "Although we had some close fought groups, we ended up with clear winners in every category. It was great to have so many previous YCS and current and former British Team Members help out on the day with demonstrations and belaying, we couldn't do it without all our volunteers."
You can see the results as they are posted on the YCS page HERE
Why not test yourself against the Competition Routes?
The climbs that have been set for the YCS at The Peak and Inverness Leisure will remain in place for a while. Although the YCS is a FUN EVENT with climbs and boulder problems to suit a range of difficulty including very easy, the event also has to test the best young scottish climbers in all the age categories. So, this is a great opportunity for everyone (adults and children alike) to test themsleves against the best young climbers around, or, if you are a young climber who has never tried the competition before and want to get an idea of what standard they are at, simply try the routes and consider entering the next 2 rounds!
The next Round of the YCS will be held at Glasgow and Aberdeen on March 2nd. Check out the details HERE
