The DVD shows the essential skills and techniques needed for back-country skiing and ski touring.
The film follows a group of friends on a multi-day ski tour in the Austrian Alps. See how they adapt their plans to the changing conditions to ensure they enjoy their experience and return safely.
Also included are technical chapters which expand upon the topics covered in the film including: Equipment, Planning, Safe travel, Skinning uphill, Snow sense, Defensive skiing, Using a rope, Crevasse rescue, Avalanche survival.
The DVD will educate and inspire all those wanting to ski off piste in the backcountry. The skills covered illustrate a progression through off piste skiing to multi day ski tours and ski mountaineering in glaciated terrain, and are approproate to skiers and boarders of all standards.
The DVD is produced by Plas y Brenin, The National Mountain Centre in association with the Mountaineering Council of Scotland and the British Mountaineering Council.
