Duplicate Club Subscription to the MCofS? How to apply for a refund:

Being a member of more than one club may result in your registration with the MCofS being duplicated. Many chose to regard the payment of the duplicate registration as a donation to the work of the MCofS, but if you require a refund of the per capita subscription to the MCofS of up to £13.00, it is necessary to follow the process detailed below.

  1. You decide which club you wish to register through for MCofS purposes.
  2. You then advise the club which you do NOT wish to register through for MCofS to de-register you from the list submitted to the MCofS, and not to register you with MCofS in future.
  3. You then apply to the MCofS office to the Membership Administrator or membership@mcofs.org.uk to request a refund stating a) the names of both clubs which currently register you with the MCofS; b) which club you wish to continue to register through for MCofS; and c) that you wish to claim a refund for your MCofS registration through the 'other' club.
  4. MCofS then refunds you directly to the equivalent amount paid to us by the club from which you are de-registering.
  5. MCofS will reconcile the membership database and the magazine mailing list to ensure that you continue to receive insurance cover and The Scottish Mountaineer magazine.

This process will ensure that both your clubs and the MCofS have accurate and up to date records. It should be noted that there will be a consequent reduction in the number of members registered with the MCofS for the club ‘losing’ the member.
