STAG
Ski Touring Advisory Group
STAG – the new group on all things off-piste.
The Advisory Group was re-established early this year and the first meeting was held at Glenmore Lodge on 19th May.
The following people are involved with STAG:
Ian Sherrington Chair & Chief Instructor at Glenmore Lodge, Heather Morning MCofS Mountain Safety Advisor, Di Gilbert (Independent), Rob Edmunds (Trade & Retail rep), Roy Henderson (BASI), Jerry Mills (Independent), Donald Hall (Snowsport Scotland), Neil MacGrain (Snowsport Scotland), David Frame (Eagle Ski Club), George Reid (Independant), Gary Todd (Eagle Ski Club) & Bob Telford (Adventure Activity Licensing Service).
The group members will be supplying regular articles and features in Scottish Mountaineer aimed at encouraging piste skiers and mountaineers to venture onto the untracked white stuff as well as putting together some factual information on pathway options for gaining qualifications to lead off-piste tours.
The STAG development plan can be viewed here.
Heather Morning, the Mountain Safety Adviser for the MCofS, will channel any requests for advice to appropriate members of the group.
We are interested in any suggestions for what we can do to assist off-piste skiers and mountaineers and are also interested to know if any club includes a group of active ski-mountaineers. Contact Heather Morning with your suggestions.
