sportscotland investment recognises the position of the MCofS as the representative body for hill walkers, climbers and ski-mountaineers, and the national governing body for sport climbing. Their investment provides a proportion of the administrative costs of the Council secretariat and the post of the Development Officer.
In addition, sportscotland, as the agent of the Scottish Executive, provides ring-fenced investment for the position of the MCofS Mountain Safety Adviser, the Mountain Weather Information Service and Mountain Leader Training Scotland.
In March 2008, Stewart Maxwell, Minister for Sport, announced the 2008-09 investment package for Scottish mountaineering, which totals £155,300. The investment is broken down into specific areas of support, some of which is ring-fenced.
