Safety & Good Practice Seminar 2009 - REPORT

For Scottish Student
Mountaineering, Climbing and Hillwalking Clubs

14th & 15th November 2009 - Glenmore Lodge, Aviemore

57 students attended from nine university clubs looked after by 25 volunteer instructors.

On Saturday the programme covered a wide range of subjects including:-

  1. Liability and Duty of Care
  2. Choice, care and maintenance of pooled equipment
  3. Incident Management
  4. Qualifications, Training Opportunities and Experience
  5. Novices and running a club
  6. Scrambling and Hazard Awareness
  7. Winter Check List
  8. Navigation

On Sunday the delegates developed their skills in Mountain Navigation (introductory and advanced) and Rock Climbing (introductory and advanced).
