Scottish Students' Mountain Safety Officer - Roger Wild
After seven years as the MCofS Mountain Safety Adviser, Roger took up his current post in April 2009. The post is financed by the Catherine Smith Memorial Trust and focuses on providing skills training to the Scottish Student Clubs. Roger is a qualified mountaineering instructor and guide.

SKILLS TRAINING (at no cost to students)
Roger can provide free training in navigation, winter skills, ropework and belaying. "One-off" days can be arranged or training can be provided during club meets. Evening training sessions can also be provided.

EVENING TALKS - NAVIGATION AND WINTER SAFETY
Roger will be touring the clubs again this autumn and early winter to deliver navigation and winter safety talks. The aim is to visit every club twice to deliver the talks.

WINTER CLIMBERS' WORKSHOPS at Glenmore Lodge - FREE to students
The MCofS is sponsoring 32 students for these one day courses. The courses are for existing winter climbers (who already go climbing on graded routes in winter with ropes and gear). The day is all about decision making with regard to the weather, avalanche hazard, route choice and the approach to the foot of a route. No routes will be climbed and there will be no training in technical climbing skills. This is not a basic winter skills day. There will be four one-day courses on 16th, 17th, 23rd and 24th January with 8 students on each day.
