Safety and Good Practice Seminar for Scottish University
Mountaineering, Climbing and Hillwalking Clubs

15th & 16th November 2008 - Glenmore Lodge, Aviemore

The seminar is aimed at University Club members who might expect to be in a position of responsibility by virtue of their experience, organisational remit or committee membership. The weekend will NOT focus on introducing new or inexperienced members to climbing or hill walking, or provide much in the way of purely personal skills training. Union or university employees are also invited if they have an overview of club organisation or safety issues.

The programme will cover a wide range of subjects including:-

SATURDAY

  1. Liability and Duty of Care
  2. Choice, care and maintenance of pooled equipment
  3. Incident Management
  4. Qualifications, Training Opportunities and Experience
  5. Novices and running a club
  6. Scrambling and Hazard Awareness
  7. Winter Check List
  8. Navigation techniques

SUNDAY

  1. Mountain Navigation - introductory
  2. Mountain Navigation - advanced
  3. Skills for Rock Climbing - introductory
  4. Skills for Rock Climbing - advanced
