Wildlife and Access
Plants and animals are an integral part of our adventure on a mountain or a crag. We all need to be aware where we stand in relation to the law as disturbing a wide range of wildlife (plants and animals) is illegal. Some access may be legal, but may not follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code and therefore is not within access rights. Knowing how to enjoy access responsibly is vital in order to stay within the law and within your access rights; have a read of the Minimal Impact Mountaineering Advice. Bird disturbance is especially delicate in the mountaineering environment, and we have detailed adviceon birds specifically for mountaineers here. Any suspicious behaviour should be reported to the Police Wildlife Liaison Officers, and contact details can be accessed from the menu on the left.
